I recieved an AMF kit I ordered last weekend on Thursday and was was pleased with how quick I received it and the kit itself. The simplicity of the kit was suprising and very impressive. Unfortunately it wouldn't help free the lifter I was dealing with. After cleaning up the end of the drift twice from trying to free the lifter I decided to just take the extra 45 minutes to remove the head and replace the lifter to be safe. I've been a tech for over 34 years and most of the time when I see a You Tube videos on mechanical work I wonder how half these techs still have a job. your video was not only very informative but it offered a step by step accurate assessment of what to expect from trying this repair. I really appreciate your time you put into not only making the video but also the kit you offered. Thanks again for the help

Thanks for understanding that it doesn't always work and actually listening to the video not all people do or perhaps its just too much info to swallow for many. It is a bummer you could not get it to release though but I am curious, was this on a aluminum block? Also did you try both top and bottom of cam lobe and with or without small air hammer?
Kevin
It is a steal block and it was a exhuast valve on cyl#1. I did it off the cam ramp. The oil hole was right on the tool.
If it was my truck I would have kept using the small air hammer on it just to see what happened. But I had half a headset lying around with new head bolts and it is my son in laws truck and I actually like this kid. So for an extra 45 minutes it is worth putting a $54 lifter in it. I am going to pull the lifter apart today to see how bad it really is.
I had to reshape the drift twice to remove burrs from hitting it and spent 25 minutes trying to free it so I just popped the head off to be safe.
I'm going to perform the AMF mods today while waiting on the lifter to ensure this never happens again so all in all it was $35 well spent in my book.

Okay, I have never had the exhaust lifter fail yet but anything is possible lol. I have so far been able to release every iron block I have had to date, it has only been the aluminum ones I've had trouble with. I also don't believe in pulling a head off without doing machine work to it unless it was just off and done recently. It amazes me how bad GM valve are bent even new out of the box from GM, even the heads get all sorts of dips and what not after some drive time and heat cycles.

No I promise you it was an exhuast lifter. I thought about the head this morning and was going to have it checked but decided to just exchange it with a head the machine we use at the dealership had already done for $125.
I honesty thought about keep smacking that thing until it unfroze but with my luck on this truck I would have probably broke something. The truck is a 08 with 185k and not maintained really well. It still had the stock plugs, wires, hoses, thermostat and coolant. Plus it needed front brakes and a axle. I figure he will have around $500 in parts to fix everything needed and I'm not charging him labor so popping the head just seemed to make more sense. Like I said if it was mine I would have beat the heck out of it just to see how far you can go before it either breaks something or frees up. Doing it this way I know it's done right and my daughter will be happy, which means my wife is happy, which in turn means my life will be happy lol

Lol I hear that.... Yeah that makes sense though and if the truck is that bad then I totally understand.

Based on our conversation I thought you might like to hear this one. After removing the plastic lifter tray I smacked the bottom of the collapsed lifter to remove it and the damn thing unfroze. So moral to this story is don't be afraid to beat the snot out of these lifters in a steel block they obviously can take it. I'm about to get a old priest and a young priest to come out here and cast the demon who possessed this truck cast out back into the dodge Omni it came from Thanks again for all the help its been appreciated
