General Discussion
Ok, so about a month ago I had a AFM lifter get stuck on my 2011 Avalanche and went through the process of the VLOM mod and that all went well and is perfect. When i had it torn apart, I could tell that the previous owner(s) didn't change the oil at proper intervals as both valve covers and the bottom of the VLOM were completely caked in old dried up nasty oil and carbon. I cleaned all of them up in my parts washer, and when the VLOM mod was done, I used a bottle of liqui-molly engine flush and changed the oil and all is good. While I was performing the lifter release, I noticed that my pushrod and rocker arm had some pretty decent wear so I decided to replace all the pushrods and rocker arms. To my surprise, all but 4 pushrods and rockers had pretty significant wear on them. I would have never thought that most of them were that bad as this truck runs smooth, no misfires, and no ticks. But after I replaced them, I noticed a substantial increase in throttle response, and my brake pedal is more sensitive now as I'm assuming it's pulling more vacuum from the valves being able to fully open now. Not sure if this info will help anyone else, but if you see damaged pushrods, I would recommend replacing them and the rocker arms.
Here is what my pushrods looked like.
